Educational Qualification
For Ex-ITI Candidates:
- Must have passed Class 10th with minimum 50% marks.
- For Fitter, Electrician and Machinist, Science & Maths are required under the 10+2 system or equivalent.
- Must possess the relevant NCVT/SCVT National Trade Certificate of one year or above.
- For PASAA, the candidate must possess the notified IT-related trade certificate such as Information Technology, COPA, Database System Administrator Assistant or Software Testing Assistant.
For Freshers:
- Fitter, Electrician & Machinist – Class 10th with minimum 50% marks and Science & Maths.
- Carpenter & Painter – Class 10th with minimum 50% marks.
- Welder – Class 10th with minimum 50% marks.
- MLT (Radiology & Pathology) – Class 12th with Physics, Chemistry & Biology.
Important: Candidates having higher qualifications such as Diploma, Engineering Degree or Degree are not eligible for the Act Apprenticeship, except MLT where 12th/HSC is prescribed.
Age Limit
Age will be calculated as on 07 September 2026.
- ITI Candidates – 15 to 24 years
- Non-ITI/Fresher Candidates – 15 to 22 years
- SC/ST – 5 years relaxation
- OBC – 3 years relaxation
- PwBD – 10 years relaxation
Training Period
- Ex-ITI Fitter, Electrician, Machinist, Carpenter, Painter, Welder & PASAA – 1 year
- Freshers Fitter, Electrician & Machinist – 2 years
- Freshers Carpenter & Painter – 2 years
- Freshers Welder – 1 year 3 months
- Freshers MLT (Radiology & Pathology) – 1 year 3 months
Stipend
- Freshers – 10th Pass: ₹8,200 per month
- Freshers – 12th Pass: ₹9,600 per month
- Ex-ITI Certificate Holders: ₹9,600 per month
During the second year of apprenticeship training, the prescribed minimum stipend will increase by 10%.
State Eligibility – Important
Candidates who are residents of Tamil Nadu and/or registered with a Local Employment Exchange falling within the jurisdiction of Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply.
This condition does not apply to wards of Railway employees. Such candidates have to produce the required Railway employee identity/service certificate and other prescribed documents during document verification.
Application Fee
- General/Other eligible candidates – ₹100 + applicable service charges
- SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates – No application fee
- Fee is non-refundable.
Selection Process
Selection will be based on the merit list prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Class 10th.
In case of equal marks, the older candidate will be preferred. If the dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed Class 10th earlier will be considered first.
Trade Allotment
Freshers can exercise their trade preference. Trade allotment will be made according to merit and availability of vacancies. Once a trade is allotted, a request for change of trade will not be entertained.
Ex-ITI candidates will be trained in the trade for which they possess the ITI certificate.
Application Process
Eligible candidates can apply online through the ICF website from 08 August 2026 to 07 September 2026 up to 05:30 PM.
Candidates should keep their required certificates/documents and a recent passport-size photograph (JPG/JPEG, maximum 200 KB) ready before filling the application form.
After final submission, candidates should generate and keep a printout of the acknowledgement form for Document Verification.

Document Verification & Medical Examination
Selected candidates will have to produce the required original documents during Document Verification, including the prescribed Transfer Certificate.
Selected candidates must also produce a Medical Certificate in the prescribed format, signed by a Government-authorized doctor as specified in the notification.

Important Instructions
- Application will be accepted only through online mode.
- Selected candidates have to execute an Apprenticeship Contract.
- Accommodation and food will not be provided by ICF; candidates have to arrange accommodation at their own cost.
- Selected candidates are required to complete the apprenticeship training as per the applicable rules.
- Apprenticeship training does not guarantee employment in ICF/Railways after completion of training.
- Training in Railways does not confer any right to absorption in Railways.
